On Thursday 16 June from 8pm, the by now-traditional annual Bloomsday show will be on again at the Dogs' Bollix, the only Hibernian-Hebrew hooley of its kind in the world and a truly unique celebration of the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. This is the fifth year in a row, and our third at the Bollix.

It is growing and our fame is spreading so come real early if you want to get in. $15 at the door and it promises to be the best yet. Hershal writes: "Wait till you see what they are making me do in the show this time! Oy Veh!".

On Sunday 26 June from 3pm, the Jews Brothers Band plus the Klezmer Rebs from Wellington will perform a Sunday concert at Rakinos. This will be the last NZ gig before....

E U R O T O U R 2 0 0 5_____

Three countries this time: Austria, Belgium and the UK. Here are the details of the gigs currently confirmed

21-23 July Linz, Austria -- Pflasterpektakel
This is a fabulous street festival that takes place throughout the city of Linz, the biggest of its kind in the world with loads of international street acts and buskers and a few special music groups....like us!

27-31 July Antwep Belgium --Zomer van Antwerpen Festival
A festival taking place on the streets of old Antwerp, includes everything from circus acts to music acts to jugglers, fire-eaters, and more. Antwerp is supposed to have an old mediaeval Jewish section that has survived; so it should be rather interesting.

On 1 August we arrive in London. The gigs the Band are scheduled to perform include a return to the great Spitz Club in the old Spitalfields Market where we played a great night last year.

Also we'll be doing the exotic Momos Morrocan Cafe, which is one of the oddest gigs you can do anywhere in the world.

There will be a trip up to Hull to play the Adelphi Club but the tour de force of the UK tour will be our performance at Broadstairs Folkweek in Kent. We even managed to land a wedding of two jewbrofans on-the-beach-and-then-in-the-pub in Whitstable, Kent while we are there so it should be another cool tour for The Jews Brothers Band.

Currently in the pipeline is Linn Lorkin's soon-to-be-legendary Kiwiana album. Right now it's being rehearsed with arrangements for piano, bass and drums, and it will be recorded live at a number of concerts on the band's return from Europe. The album will launch later this year and there will be a national concert tour early next year -- Kiwiana 2006. Watch this space..

This album of fine originals will join the pantheon of classy Rouge Records CDs which are available on our secure website at www.rouge.co.nz

Remember, you read about it first in Jews News!

Now, for your favourite part of Jews News...

A priest and a rabbi are seated together on a plane.

After a while the priest turns to the rabbi and asks, "Is it still a requirement of your faith that you not eat pork?"

The rabbi responds, "Yes, that is still one of our beliefs."

The priest then asks, "Have you ever eaten pork?"

To which the rabbi replies, "Yes, on one occasion, I did succumb to temptation and tasted a ham sandwich."

The priest nodded in understanding and went on with his reading.

A while later, the rabbi spoke up and asked the priest, "Father, is it still a requirement of your church that you remain celibate?"

The priest replied, "Yes, that is still very much a part of our faith."

The rabbi then asked him, "Father, have you ever fallen to the temptation of the flesh?"

The priest replied, "Yes, rabbi, on one occasion I was weak and broke with my faith."

The rabbi nodded understandingly.

He was silent for about five minutes, and then he said, "Beats a ham sandwich, doesn't it?"

Oy!
